How to make a vCard QR code
Fill in your details
Add your name and any of phone, email, website, company, job title and address. Only a name or company is required.
Keep it short
Every field you add makes the code denser. Leave out anything people do not need to reach you.
Download and scan to check
Download SVG for print. Scan it with your phone and check that every field lands in the right place in the new contact.
Why use a vCard code
Handing over a business card is easy. Getting the details into a phone is not. Most cards get photographed or lost in a drawer. A vCard code turns the card into a contact in two taps, with your name, number and email spelled exactly right.
It also works on name badges, email signatures, conference slides, shop counters and the back of a flyer.
What to include
Pick the fields that help people reach you:
- Name. First and last name, so you sort properly in their contacts.
- Mobile phone. Add the country code, like +1 or +44, so it works from abroad.
- Email and website. Double check spelling. A typo here is printed forever.
- Company and job title. Helps people remember where they met you.
- Address. Only if people actually visit you. It adds a lot of data.
Size and printing
A vCard holds far more data than a link, so the code has more, smaller squares. On a standard business card, make it at least 2.5 cm (1 in) wide and print it in black on white. Use SVG so the printer gets sharp edges.
If you add a logo in the middle, the code gets even denser because error correction goes up. For business cards, a plain code is often the better choice.
Your details stay private
The card is built in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or saved anywhere. You can check by turning off your internet after the page loads. The generator still works.
What happens when someone scans it
The phone shows a preview of your contact card with your name, number and email filled in. One tap on Create contact or Save adds it to their address book. There is no app to install and no website in between, so it works even without signal.
Making codes for a whole team
Make one code per person with the same colors and logo, and name each download after the person. Ask each person to scan their own code before you order cards, because a typo in a phone number is printed forever.
Questions people ask
What happens when someone scans a vCard QR code?
The phone shows a contact card with your details and offers to save it. iPhones do this from the camera app. Most Android phones do it from the camera or Google Lens.
Which vCard version do you use?
vCard 3.0, the most widely supported version on phones and email apps. Commas, semicolons and line breaks are escaped so they come out correctly.
Can I update my details later?
Not on the same code. A static vCard code stores your details inside it. If your number changes, make a new code. Keep the website field pointing to a page you control if you change jobs often.
Why is my code so dense?
A full contact card holds a lot of text. Remove optional fields, or print the code bigger. At least 2.5 cm (1 in) wide is a good minimum on a business card.
What can I put in a vCard QR code?
Your name, job title, company, mobile and work phone, email, website, street address and a short note. Leave out anything you do not want on a printed card.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both read vCard codes from the camera app and offer to save the contact. Older phones may need a QR scanner app.
Can I add my social media links?
Use the website field for your main link, such as your site or a link-in-bio page. Every extra field makes the code denser, so one good link beats five.
