Free, with no catch
A lot of "free" QR code sites are free trials in disguise. You make a code, print it on 500 flyers, and two weeks later it stops working unless you pay. That happens because those sites make a dynamic code: the pattern holds a short link to their server, and they switch the link off when the trial ends.
The codes here are static. Your link, WiFi details or contact card are stored in the black and white squares themselves. A phone reads them directly, without asking us anything. So there is no account, no expiry date and no server that can go down and take your code with it.
What you can make
Any link works, but some jobs need a specific format. A WiFi code has to follow the format phones expect, and a contact card has to be a proper vCard. The generator handles that for you. These pages explain each one in more detail:
- Do QR codes expire?
- QR code for Google reviews
- Instagram QR code generator
- Menu QR code generator
- vCard QR code generator
- WiFi QR code generator
Tips before you print
- Scan the code with two different phones before printing a big batch.
- Keep it dark on light. Black on white scans best. Pale colors and inverted codes often fail.
- Leave the white border around the code. Scanners need it to find the edges.
- Print it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide, and bigger if people scan from a distance.
- Use SVG for print. It stays sharp at any size.
Need to change where a code points after it is printed? That is what dynamic codes are for. Ours are part ofPro, launching soon for $5 a month, and they will keep working even if you cancel. Static codes stay free either way.
Questions people ask
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. Static QR codes are free with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many you make. There is nothing to cancel.
Do the QR codes expire?
No. A static code stores your link or text inside the pattern itself. Nothing on our side has to stay online for it to work, so it keeps scanning for as long as the printed code is readable.
Do you see or store what I type?
No. The code is made in your browser. Your link, WiFi password or logo is never sent to our server.
Can I use the codes for my business?
Yes. Use them on menus, packaging, flyers, signs and ads. There is no watermark, no attribution needed and no limit on scans.
What happens if this website shuts down?
Your codes keep working. A static code does not depend on us at all, because everything it needs is inside the pattern.
How do I know a generator will not expire my codes?
Make a code and scan it. If the phone shows your own link, it is static and cannot be switched off. If it shows a short link on the generator's own domain, it is dynamic and depends on that company.
Which file format should I download?
PNG works almost everywhere. SVG stays sharp at any size, which makes it best for print. JPG is there for tools that only accept it.
