Do Canva QR codes expire? What Canva and Adobe actually say

No, not on their own. Canva's help center says "Without an expiry date, your QR code never expires," and only Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit users can set one on a dynamic code. Adobe Express makes static codes only, and Adobe says they "never expire," though you cannot change the link later.

Updated

Canva’s two QR code types: static and dynamic

Some older guides say Canva QR codes are static only. That is out of date. Canva’s help page “Create and manage QR codes in Canva” says: “Canva has two QR code tools: Static QR Codes for a quick, fixed link, and Dynamic QR codes for a link you can update later and track” (canva.com, read 3 November 2026).

Here is what the same page says about each type:

  • Static: “Static QR codes can’t be edited after creation as their link is fixed for good.” They also “never include the Canva logo.”
  • Dynamic: you can change the link later. On Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit plans you can also set an expiry date. “Dynamic QR codes on Free, Pro and Education plans include the Canva logo by default.”
  • Switching types: asked if you can convert a static code into a dynamic one, or the other way, Canva answers: “No, in either direction.”
  • Insights: “Insights is available on Canva Business, Canva Enterprise, and Canva for Nonprofit.”

For how the two types differ in general, see static vs dynamic QR codes.

When a Canva QR code can stop working

Canva’s FAQ answers the question directly. “Do my QR codes expire?” “Not unless you set one. On Canva Business, Canva Enterprise, or Canva for Nonprofit, you can set an expiry date and time for a dynamic QR code, plus where to redirect scanners afterward. Without an expiry date, your QR code never expires.”

So a Canva code can stop in these cases:

  • You set an expiry date on a dynamic code. Canva says: “If you don’t set a URL after expiry, the code redirects to Canva’s generic QR code error page once it expires.”
  • The content breaks Canva’s rules. Canva’s QR code generator page says “your QR code may get deactivated if the linked content doesn’t meet Canva’s platform guidelines” (canva.com, read 3 November 2026).
  • The link inside stops working, for example if the page is deleted. That applies to any code.

A dynamic Canva code also depends on Canva’s redirect, as all dynamic codes depend on their provider.

Adobe Express QR codes: static only

Adobe’s help page “Add QR codes to designs” (last updated 20 November 2025) says: “QR codes made in Adobe Express never expire.” It adds: “The QR codes are static, so if you need to change the URL, you’ll have to generate a new QR code” (helpx.adobe.com, read 3 November 2026).

Adobe’s product page agrees: “Adobe Express generates static QR codes, making them perfect for permanent links like websites, social media profiles, and business cards” (adobe.com, read 3 November 2026).

Canva vs Adobe Express vs QRNoExpire at a glance

Feature Canva Adobe Express QRNoExpire
Static codes Yes, never expire Yes, never expire Yes, free, never expire
Dynamic codes Yes No Yes, with Pro
Expiry date option Business, Enterprise, Nonprofit Not applicable Not offered
Scan data Insights on Business, Enterprise, Nonprofit Not stated Total scan count on Pro
Dynamic codes after you cancel Not stated in Canva’s docs Not applicable Keep redirecting, editing locks

What happens if you cancel Canva Pro or delete your account

Canva’s docs do not say what happens to a dynamic code if you downgrade, cancel or delete your account. We could not find it stated, so we will not guess.

What we can say: a static code holds the link in its pattern, so it does not depend on any account. For wedding invitations, business cards and anything else you print, a static code is the safe choice. If you are making cards, see the business card QR code page.

  • Canva dynamic code: edit the link in Canva, and check the logo and plan rules above.
  • New static code: make a fresh code with the new link and reprint. Static codes from the maker on this page are free, with no signup and no watermark. Add your own logo in “Colors, size and logo” (see the QR code generator with logo), and download SVG for print.
  • QRNoExpire Pro: editable codes for $5 a month or $48 a year. If you cancel, codes keep redirecting to their last destination and keep counting scans; only editing locks. See pricing.

Questions people ask

Do Canva QR codes expire?

Not unless you set an expiry date, which only Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit users can do on a dynamic code. Canva can still deactivate a code if the linked content breaks its platform guidelines.

Will my Canva QR code stop working if I cancel Canva Pro?

Canva's docs do not say what happens to a dynamic code if you downgrade or cancel. A static Canva code holds the link itself, so it does not depend on your plan. For print, a static code is the safe choice.

Why is there a Canva logo on my QR code?

Canva says dynamic QR codes on Free, Pro and Education plans include the Canva logo by default. Static QR codes never include it.

Do Adobe Express QR codes expire?

No. Adobe says QR codes made in Adobe Express never expire. They are static, so to change the link you make a new code.

Can I edit a Canva QR code after printing?

Only if it is a dynamic code. Canva says static codes cannot be edited, and you cannot convert one type into the other.

Are Canva QR codes safe for wedding invitations?

A static Canva code is a good fit, because it holds the link and does not rely on Canva's redirect. Canva's docs do not say what happens to dynamic codes if your account or plan changes, so use a static code for anything printed.
