How to make an editable QR code

  1. Get Pro and sign in

Choose a monthly or yearly plan on the pricing page, then sign in to your dashboard.

  2. Create the code

Add a new code in the dashboard and paste the link it should open. You get a short link like qrnoexpire.com/r/abc123.

  3. Download and print

Download the code, test it with your phone and print it. Change the destination from the dashboard any time.

What a dynamic QR code is

A dynamic QR code does not hold your real link. It holds a short link, like qrnoexpire.com/r/abc123. When someone scans it, their phone opens the short link, and our server forwards them to the destination you chose.

Because the pattern only holds the short link, you can change the destination as often as you like. The printed code stays the same. Hovercode’s home page puts it the same way: “A dynamic QR code points to a short redirect link instead of storing your URL directly” (hovercode.com, read 3 November 2026).

Dynamic vs static: which one you need

  • Static: the link is in the pattern. It never expires and needs no account, but you cannot change it. The maker on this page makes static codes for free.
  • Dynamic: the short link can point anywhere, so you can fix a typo, swap a menu or move a campaign without reprinting. It depends on the short link staying active.

Good uses for dynamic codes include restaurant menus that change by season, flyers for events that move, and business cards when your portfolio link changes. For more detail, see static vs dynamic QR codes.

What happens if you stop paying

This is the question to ask any dynamic QR code provider before you print. Many make dynamic codes during a free trial and switch them off when it ends.

For example, QRCodeKIT’s home page says of its trial end: “Your QR codes are deactivated, and an in-app countdown warns you before that happens” (qrcodekit.com, read 3 November 2026). That is clearly stated, which is fair, but it means printed codes stop if you do not upgrade.

On QRNoExpire Pro, if you cancel:

  • Your codes keep redirecting to their last destination.
  • They keep counting scans.
  • Only editing locks. You cannot change the destination until you subscribe again.

So a printed code never turns into an error page because a payment stopped.

What you can and cannot see

Each Pro code shows a total scan count. That is all. There are no maps, no device charts, no unique visitor counts and no exports. If a total is what you need, it is simple to read. If you need detailed analytics, a different tool will suit you better. The QR code tracking guide explains the options, including a free method for static codes.

Pricing: $5 a month or $48 a year

Pro costs $5 a month or $48 a year. It includes:

  • Editable dynamic codes made from your dashboard.
  • A total scan count per code.
  • No 15-a-day limit on new codes.

See the pricing page for details.

When a free static code is the better choice

A dynamic code is only worth it if the destination may change. If it will not, a static code is simpler and has no moving parts. It also works for things that are not links, which a redirect cannot do:

  • A menu PDF on a link you control.
  • A WiFi password or a contact card.
  • A link to a page you will keep at the same address.

The free maker on this page makes up to 15 new static codes a day, with no signup and no watermark. It downloads PNG, SVG and JPG, and you can open “Colors, size and logo” to style it. Nothing you type is sent to our server.

Questions people ask

Can I edit a QR code after printing?

Only if it is a dynamic code. A static code stores the link in the pattern, so it cannot change. A dynamic code stores a short link, and you can point that short link somewhere new.

Is there a free dynamic QR code generator that does not expire?

Some sites offer a small number of free dynamic codes, but their rules vary, so read the terms. If you do not need to edit the link, a free static code never expires at all.

What happens to my dynamic QR code if I cancel?

On QRNoExpire, your codes keep redirecting to their last destination and keep counting scans. Only editing locks.

Can I change a static QR code into a dynamic one?

No. The link is fixed in a static code's pattern. Make a new dynamic code and replace the printed copies.

Do dynamic QR codes need internet to work?

Yes. The phone has to reach the short link before it is forwarded to your page, so the scanner needs a connection.

Can I track scans on a dynamic QR code?

Yes. QRNoExpire Pro shows a total scan count for each code. It does not show maps, devices or unique visitors.
